Global Garden Shovel, A large-scale public sculpture commissioned by Sound Transit to be installed in the city of Seattle along a new transit line along Martin Luther King Drive. The shovel is 35 feet tall, and the blade measures 7 foot by 8 foot and is constructed from castings and manual replications of indigenous plants and tree from the tropics and northern climates. The diverse ethnic population of the Rainer Valley is reflected in the plants from different geographic regions that make up the shovel. The sculpture is also a reminder of the the crucial role that plants play in sustaining life on our planet, such as producing food, medicine, oxygen, moisture, as well as providing beauty and enjoyment in our everyday lives |
